Magazines

Every week when I am out shopping, I pop into a newsagency and take a quick look over the various photography magazines. There is always several different ones on the rack.

Over the last several Months I have purchased many of them and had a read of the articles in them.

Most of the Magazines that I have purchased just seem to have very similar content and don't really offer a great deal of fresh and useful information. But there is one that I have found that I really like.

It is a UK based one called Digital Camera World It is a real pain getting an overseas magazine in Australia - they are usually about 2 months old before I get them.

I have bought this magazine for the last 4-5 months and I have been so impressed, I have taken out a subscription ( I hope to get each edition a bit quicker). In the same time, I have purchased a few other magazines as well, but they simply didn't offer enough interesting info from month to month.

Yes, I bet this sounds a bit like an advert! - but it is not, I had to pay for my subscription! Now, what I really like about the magazine is that it has 5-6 distinctive sections that are a great read each month.

Where they differ from other magazines is that they are not just full of adverts and reviews on Cameras - they truly have something great to offer each month. For example, the January Edition comes with a small A5 sized 52 page book that is all about composition. This little booklet has a lot of practical info and is one of the best books I have read on the subject - worth far more than the cover price IMO.

Each month, they have several pages that really explore a particular area and skills - and give a lot of useful and practical info on how you can practice and develop these skills yourself.  They also have a section that discusses in-depth a particular aspect of the Digital Darkroom and give plenty of examples and really explain things very well.

The quality of the info is really why I love this magazine and I'll continue to buy it.
