My first attempt at Sports

A few weeks ago, I took the Camera's along to a football match - Football here is Australian Rules Football.

The game is a charity match that is played after the Season finishes each year and the Teams are made up of some of the players from the season that has just ended, Past players for the team and some celebrity players.

I have posted a selection of pictures in a gallery for your enjoyment.

If you look at them in order and read the comments with each you will get a small glimpse into the game as it was played.

I was seated approx 15M from the boundary in the Grandstand so I was not really very close to the Action.  I just tried to get a few intersting pictures of the game and in the gallery.

Anyway, the game was great and I had a lot of fun.

Now, The photography - I watch a fair bit of the footy and have a reasonable understanding of the game.  This enabled me to keep an eye on the play and to try and anticipate when I might get a few interesting pictures.

I took 2 Lens' to the game, my 14-54 and 50-200.  Most of the shots were with the bigger zoom.  The 200mm (400mm equiv on a 35mm film camera) was barely long enough for this sort of shooting and I needed to crop some of the photos.

The game was played in the afternoon and there was plenty of light so I was able to shoot at ISO 100.  With the long tele lens I needed to keep my shutter speed up to around 1/400 or faster to avoid shake.  In order to do this, I ended up shooting at around F6.3.

I was pretty happy with the result and the images that I captured and will certainly have to try again next year during the football season.
