Temporary Studio
Typically when you think of a photographic studio, you think of models, backdrops and studio Lights. Well, recently, I wanted to take a series of pictures of some fairly small objects and as I don't have a studio I have to make do with what I do have.
What I did want was fairly consistent light that would allow me to get the shots. I didn't wnat to use flash unless it was a last resort so I set about thinking when and where I could use what I had to maximise the quality of light for my pictures.
I decided to shoot under my carport in the middle of the day - this way I would have a heap of light, but no direct harsh light. So, I gathered up what I have and took it outside and set it all up.
I made use of the following: 2x foam mounting boards (30x40" in size), my white linen backdrop. I usedthe 2 mounting bloards as large reflectors to direct a bit more of the sunlight into the general area and my white linen backdrop I spread it out on the ground to also reflect as much light as possible.

I did think to take a few pictures of my setup - and this one shows how I used everything. 1 White board was against the front of my car reflecting additional light into the area. The 2nd board was placed against the wall - A brown brick wall does not reflect much light! and finally, the linen sheet was laid out underneath the area I was working with.

Another Angle

I was able to take the pictures I needed without any problems using the above setup, and By using just a few cheap props that I had to hand I was able to control the available light and get what I needed.
So, next time when you think studio, think more about controlling the light than the actual location.
