Panorama Updated
A couple of days ago, I posted about the Panorama I created. Well, after a few people on a forum took a look, they commented on how I might be able to improve it.
So, with their tips, I loaded up the cropped image into the Gimp and had another go to try an improve it.
What was suggeted is that I try adjusting the levels - so that is exactly what I did.
Now, the image the I originally porcessed can be found at http://photoblog.shrinkpictures.com/images/20061203065613_hugin_3_adelaide_draft_cropped_filtered_200h_nolevels.jpg
Even though the image is pretty good, it just lacks that "punch" and it appears to be a bit flat and hazy.
So, After I spent a few hours working on the image I cam up with what I consider to be a much better pano. Yes, when working with a 200Meg tif image it tends to be pretty slow to do anything.
So the new image looks a lot better - http://photoblog.shrinkpictures.com/images/20061203065613_hugin_3_adelaide_draft_cropped_filtered_200h_lev1.jpg
I had a third go at it - this time, I started with the version that was stitched and cropped only (from the original)
I worked it over pretty hard in the Gimp - Adjusting the Brightness, Levels, Colour Balance, Slight curves adjustment and finally applied an unsharp mask
So, when you next go and process a photo, come back to it a few days later and don't be afraid to experiment with your processing - you might just make a good picture Great!
Sometimes a photo that you see has potential and to get it to really shine takes considerable time and effort - I will be getting this printed out as a 30 x 7"
