Photography tips

A journey in Photography and sharing of how I go about taking various types of photos. Discussions include software and camera equipment and how to make the most of your equipment in a given situation.

Flash and pets

A few days ago I grabbed the camera and put the flash on it and went outside to try and get a picture of my cat. The cat was on the roof looking over the edge at me and it would have made a pretty good photo.

As usual, by the time I got back outside the cat was nowhere to be seen.

Choosing B/W

Well, today I was looking to get a specific photo and spent a few minutes setting up the scene. I took around 15-20 pictures with some small variations in the composition, lighting etc. Well, then I loaded them onto the Computer and started looking to see if I got what I set out to.

Well, I can say that I was not really very happy with any of them and to get something useful I would have to pull a rabbit out of my hat.

Street Parade Pictures

As I mentioned in my last post, I am going to present a few of the photos from the Street Parade. I selected 4 images out of the ones I took and I'll discuss them in detail. I will look at the composition of the pictures and why I liked or disliked them. So, lets cut the crap and get to the pictures. (More)

Street Parade

Yesterday, I grabbed a Camera in the hope of getting a few worthwhile shots of A local Street Parade. The Parade is Where Santa Arrives at the Local Shopping Mall, and several Local Community Groups participate in it.

I only Took 1 camera with me with the 14-54mm Lens on it. I soon realised I should have also had my other Camera with the Longer Lens as well. It just made it a little more difficult to get some shots - I had to wait for the parade to get close to me to get the shot.

All About Aperture

The Aperture of f-stop is a measure of "how big" the hole is that passes the light from the lens to the film (or digital Sensor). So, Adjusting the Aperture is really making the opening bigger or smaller in the Lens.

This is of course a very simplistic explanation, but That Is what we are going to explore and try and make sense of.

Buying a Compact Digital Camera

I just thought I would go thru a few of the things to look at when buying a Point and Shoot or Compact Digital Camera. There is so many things to consider, and the salesman will be looking for his biggest commision, so knowing what you want can get you a camera that suits you, and what you want to do with it.

Always check

Yesterday, I went out for a few hours to take some photos. I wanted some specific photos to post in my photoblog. I had a bit of feedback that It is called Adelaide thru my Lens, but there were hardly any photos of Adelaide to be seen.

So, I grabbed my bag, and headed off to a couple of places to take some photos. I had a good afternoon out and took around 50 or so photos from a couple of different places overlooking the City. It was a little hazy, and I hoped to get at least a few decent pictures out of this lot.

time for a service

The rubber grip on one of my E300's has decided it no longer wants to stay attached to the camera. I have tried a couple of things to stick it back on and so far nothing has worked.

I have tried double sided tape, silicone and finally contact cement. I just cannot get the rubber to stick. Anyway, I was looking at the grip today and found that it is now a little bit bigger than the inset area where it goes - I guess that over the last 18 months it has stretched. I am going to call up Olympus and find out about getting it serviced.

I hope that It won't take too long to do as it is only 8 weeks until I go on holidays and I certainly don't want to go without it.
