Always check
Yesterday, I went out for a few hours to take some photos. I wanted some specific photos to post in my photoblog. I had a bit of feedback that It is called Adelaide thru my Lens, but there were hardly any photos of Adelaide to be seen.
So, I grabbed my bag, and headed off to a couple of places to take some photos. I had a good afternoon out and took around 50 or so photos from a couple of different places overlooking the City. It was a little hazy, and I hoped to get at least a few decent pictures out of this lot.
Well, when I got home, I grabbed the Flash card out of the Camera and downloaded them. Yes, as expected the haze was quite visible in the shots over the City. I then grabbed the card out of the other Camera and started looking at the pictures.
This is where things started going bad. All of the pictures seemed to be very noisy. It was about this time that I realised that the last time I used this camera that I was shooting indooors at 1600 ISO. Yes, I had forgot to check All the settings before using the Camera, and ended up with 2 out of about 30 photos that were usable. The combination of the high noise and the bit of haze that was present meant that I couldn't save most of the photos I had taken.
I know everyone will do this at some point, and at least this time, I was glad that the pictures are something that I can re-shoot. I guess it could have been a lot worse, but this time I was lucky that the shots were not of a one-off event! So, I learnt something again yesterday and that is never assume that you camera settings are right. Check everything each and every time you take pictures or you might end up with nothing.
