microstock agencies

A lot of photographers, both amateur and professional sell their photos online. They either go with a traditional stock agency, or use a microstock agency. Well, There is always a lot of arguments both for and against the microstocks. But lets not get into this argement here!

I choose to upload a few of my images to these sites for a couple of reasons. The main one is that the review process can really help you improve your photography. I don't really do it with the hope of making any serious money out of it, but if I earn a few $, then that is great as well. I don't actually go out to take "stock worthy" photos simply for the purpose of uploading them and hoping they get approved. I usually only submit a photo that has served it's purpose for me, and might be stock worthy.

I often will take pictures of something in order to learn or master a specific technique -such as a particular lighting technique. Once I am done learning, I might have say 100+ photos. By the end, I usually have 2 or 3 exceptional shots. To me, these photos have already served their purpose in helpiong me master the technique, and rather than simply delete them I choose to submit them to a few of the microstock agencies.

Well, I submit to 3 or 4 sites, and on one site, my portfolio - if you can call 7 photos a portfolio has made me $7. Another site, I have around 30 pictures online and have made $5. I have only just started submitting to a couple of others and have no portfolio and no $.

I was going thru a few of my recent pictures and seeing if any of them were worthy of uploading and submitted a couple of images tonight. Now, I just forget about them and log in in about a weeks time to see if they were accepted or rejected. I never stress or worry about if I get accepted or rejected, but since I have been submitting, I can learn a lot from having a photo rejected as well.
