When the everyday is more
After seeing a news report a couple of days ago I just had to wait until I could get to a place and look at something for myself.
We had a pretty bad storm a few days ago and the Storm caused a bit of damage to several Jetties that stretch out into the Gulf. What made it particularly bad was the fact that there was a very high tide that co-incided with a very low low pressure system.
Ok, now you are probably wondering what all this has to do with taking a few photos - I'm glad you asked!
Well, firstly, I went out to one of the jetties that has been closed and took a few photos for myself. More on that shortly. Secondly, the Jetty is a fairly familiar place to me and I had taken some photos of it in the middle of summer.
The Photos today that show the after-effects of a severe winter storm are a stark contrast to my photos from 18 months ago.
Well, I guess I have finally got to my point. To me, the jetty is just an everyday part of the local scenery and in a lot of ways not a very appealing photographic subject. But, I did take some photos and now because of the events of the last few days I have some wonderfully contrasting photos of exactly the same place.
Ok, lets get to the photo's - firstly, my older images of the Jetty.
The Jetty and Beach actually looks pretty good in summer!
Well today, I captured some images of the same jetty that look quite a bit different!
I didn't really plan to try and capture images similar to what I had, but there are a couple that clearly show how different it is at the moment.
I guess that almost by accident I captured some before Images and after the storm I went out of my way to capture the after images. The everyday images I originally took I considered to be the everyday, but now, in context with what has happened they are really a bit of history.
So, even though I didn't set out 18 months ago to capture a photo for prosperity it seems that I did.
